LipoAlert
An interesting situation involving Damage to a Lithium Polymer flight pack occurred recently at Forton , Ron Shone's Flying Wing model ejected it's flight pack during a high G maneuver,The model returned to earth ok but the Lipo flight pack sustained serious damage ..
Due to the volatile nature of Lithium Polymer cells problems can occur when such a battery pack becomes damaged . The official recommendations are that the Lipo pack should be fully discharged either by using something like a vehicle indicator bulb or submersing the cells in a bucket of Saltwater for a few hours prior to disposal in an ordinary dustbin .
Under no Circumstances should the cells be " Transported Home " in a vehicle or dumped in a charged state into a bin ,
To this end I now carry a "Discharge Lamp " in my flight box with a selection of adaptors for various connector types , Anyone unfortunate enough to need them is welcome to use them .. KD
